Ayodeji Balogun from commonly known as Wizkid, is the first performer to win the American Music Awards’ Favourite Afrobeats Artiste category.
The event’s 50th iteration was held on Sunday at Microsoft Theater in California.
He became the first person ever to receive that honor because the Favourite Afrobeats Artiste category was added to the award event for the first time.
To finally win the book prize, Wizkid competed against other Nigerian artists like as Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy DML, and Tems.
He also took up the prize for Favorite R&B Song at the event for his work on Essence with Tems.
Tems also received two honors for her work on Future’s Wait For U, which won Favorite Hip Hop, and Essence’s Favorite R&B, which won Favorite R&B.
Two years after Essence’s release as the eleventh single of Wizkid’s fourth studio album, Made in Lagos, in October 2020, it is still winning awards.
Tailor Swift, an American singer, was the night’s top winner, taking home six trophies in all, including 2022 Artiste of the Year. She now has 40 victories overall, extending her record as the most-awarded artist in AMA history.
