UEW: Police fire tear gas to disperse protesting students Video)

On Friday, police used tear gas to disperse some 400 University of Education, Winneba (UEW) students who were participating in a demonstration.

With just over three weeks to graduation, the students were demonstrating over discrepancies in their results.

This came about as a result of administration and students not meeting as scheduled.

Some students blocked entrances to the university with tree branches and at first chased away security guards who had been sent in to keep order.

Their activity disrupted classes and some administrative work, compelling the school’s authorities to call for police assistance leading to the firing of tear gas.

The displeased students claimed that the administration had neglected to update their academic records on theironline portal.

As a result of this development, the academic results displayed on the school’s notice board and those that have been published to the portal differ.

They claimed that the administration of the school was intentionally trying to fail them.
