On November 24, 2022, Portugal defeated Ghana’s Black Stars 3-2 in a 2022 FIFA World Cup match that took place in group H.
In the first half, a contentious penalty by Cristiano Ronaldo gave the Portuguese the lead.
The European team went up 2-0 in the space of two minutes to take a 3-1 lead, but Ghanaian substitute Osman Bukari pulled one back with a spectacular header from a Baba Rahman cross. The final score of the game was 3-2.
Many Ghanaians were dissatisfied by the outcome of the game and took to social media to express their disappointment in the Ghanaian team’s performance.
President Akuf-Addo watched the game with the vast majority of Ghanaians. Even though the squad lost, he expressed on Twitter how proud he still is of them.
Gutsy performance by the @GhanaBlackstars in today’s match against Portugal. Very proud of the entire team. They live to fight another day, & have shown they have what it takes to mix it up against any team in the tournament. Looking forward to the next game against South Korea. pic.twitter.com/FiDWm5fO4b
