Police hunt MPs who attacked female colleague in parliament

Two opposition politicians attacked a female MP during a confrontation in parliament last week. Police in Senegal are looking for them.

Amy Ndiaye was punched in the stomach by Mamadou Niang and Massata Samb on Thursday during a vote on the justice ministry’s budget.

The speaker then put an end to the conversation after Ms. Ndiaye hurled a chair at Mr. Samb.

Dakar’s prosecutors have begun legal action against the two male MPs.

Senegal strongly condemned the violence in the parliament, which took place during an annual UN-sponsored awareness campaign about violence against women and girls.
