Police confirm arrest of Nollywood actor for alleged rape of minor

Moses Armstrong, a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was detained for allegedly raping a minor, according to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.

This was verified in a statement issued on Monday in Uyo by SP Odiko Macdon, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

SP Macdon stated that the actor was detained by the Police Command on June 9.

Moses Armstrong, a well-known Nollywood performer and actor, was detained by police officers for allegedly defiling a local 16-year-old girl.

“We detained the suspect after receiving a rape report. The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has taken over the case after we completed our preliminary investigations, he said.

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) brought the suspect to court on June 20; the suspect was then remanded, according to SP Macdon.

The National President of the Guild, Mr. Emeka Rollas, also spoke and called the situation “extremely serious.”
The charge, according to Mr. Rollas, is a terrible development because it involves one of their own, and the organization would never support such a crime.

He said that the governor’s wife, Mrs. Martha Emmanuel, was in charge of it through her Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Path Initiative.

“Neither I nor the organisation I represent would support being engaged with a youngster as young as 16 years old. I wouldn’t want to speak further on this matter, but this is a really sad event concerning one of our own, he added.
