Pilot hangs out of cockpit window to retrieve passenger’s phone (video)

Accidentally leaving your smartphone at home is one thing, but doing so right before boarding a flight at the airport is quite another.

This sad situation was caused by a Southwest Airlines traveler leaving their phone in a gate area at Long Beach Airport in Los Angeles.

Boarding had ended and the plane had been pushed back by the time a passenger on a different flight noticed it and alerted the crew.

To guarantee that the phone was safely returned to its owner, employees on the ground promptly coordinated their efforts.

A pilot is seen reaching out of the cockpit window in a video posted by the Dallas-based airline on November 13 in an effort to grab it from ramp workers on the ground.

A second ramp worker intervenes and successfully hands it to the pilot after one staff member makes a failed attempt to jump up and grab it for him.

Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Chris Perry said that the passenger who found the phone had recently spoken to its owner and was able to inform the crew of the flight they were on.

The operations staff contacted the pilot after realizing that the flight in question had already boarded all passengers.

“The captain immediately suggested that the ramp agents on the ground try to jump the phone up to him so he could return it to the customer,” Perry, told CNN via email. “The rest was captured on video!”

We believe it is safe to infer that the owner of the phone was quite appreciative of the gesture, even if they have not been publicly recognized.

The video and a message with the hashtag #WorldKindnessDay were shared on World Kindness Day, a global holiday created to encourage kindness. When the video was shot is unknown.

Rumeysa Gelgi, the tallest living person, traveled from Turkey to San Francisco on a plane in September. Turkish Airlines removed several seats so that she could travel comfortably on a stretcher for the duration of the 13-hour flight, and she later shared a touching post about the experience on social media.
