Over 400 stranded Ghanaians repatriated from UAE

Over 450 Ghanaians who were stuck in the United Arab Emirates in August have reportedly been returned home, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry claimed in a statement that the people who had become stuck had been “misled by dishonest agents who promised nonexistent opportunities in Dubai and other regions of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).”

According to the authorities, 80 casualties were returned to Ghana by air with the assistance of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity organization in Dubai and other kindhearted people.

It continued, “In addition, 20 Ghanaians were evacuated in September 2022 on board Egypt Air with the assistance of a person and friend of the Government of Ghana, Mr. Abdul Rarsak-Daheer.

According to the statement, the ban on hiring Ghanaian labor migrants directly into houses in the Gulf states is still in effect until further notice.

“However, the embargo has no bearing on the legitimate hiring of trained workers (other than domestic housekeepers) in the Gulf States.

The statement said, “The Ministry cautions Ghanaians traveling to desist from embarking on excursions via illicit routes to other areas of the world since this nearly invariably has an unfortunate consequence.
