According to accounts, the gunmen entered the church during a service earlier today and opened fire on the crowd.
The event occurred on Owa-luwa Street, in the Owo council area of Ondo State capital, at the St Francis Catholic Church.
Five bandits invaded the church during worship, according to one eyewitness, and shot members.
“It was like a movie,” he told the Nigerian newspaper Vanguard. “They attacked the chapel and shot indiscriminately.” Several individuals, including children and women, were slaughtered.”
“They tossed explosives into the church when they sought to kidnap the priest.”
The attack’s motivation and perpetrators are unclear, but state police spokeswoman Funmi Odunlami stated the command will talk about the heinous crime later.
