Niger starts creating artificial rain in order to ease the drought

According to weather officials, Niger has used rainmaking technology to lessen the effects of the drought there.

Long drought seasons have caused a food catastrophe in the desert nation for years.

“We had to do something about this drought,” Katiellou Gaptia Lawan, the director of the national meteorology institute, told AFP.

The “induced rain” technology involves spraying chemicals into clouds from an aircraft.

The intervention is concentrated in rural areas.

The country has experienced flooding in several areas, which has made the food issue worse.
