Actor/comedian Michael Blackson, who is Ghanaian-American-Liberian, will preside over what has been called the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in Ghana.
Ghana will represent Africa in the historic event by joining the famous list and beginning its first New Year’s celebrations with a lavish show broadcast around the globe.
For the first time, an African nation will officially usher in a New Year alongside other nations.
The Black Star Gate and Arch at Independence Square will serve as the backdrop for the magnificent sky-lighting show.
Creator of Countdown Africa and Founder of AKvance, Akua Kufuor said: “This is about taking Africa to the world stage of celebrations.
What better time to showcase our presence to the world, than from the centre of the world?” Some 20,000 guests are scheduled to be in attendance, including international and local celebrities, with surprise performances on the night.
This celebration also supports one of the country’s key agendas to build up tourism and assist in leading to more business and investment opportunities.
The countdown display will be a ticketed event, and everyone who purchases a ticket will receive a discount code from KLM Airlines, the official travel partner, for travel to any location in the nation.
“We are happy to be the first Official Travel Partners to Countdown Africa and look forward to bringing everyone from everywhere to this historic event,” said Mees Van Ojik, the airline’s country manager.
With its Beyond The Return campaign, the government wants to invite the entire world to visit Ghana.
