Manhyia District Hospital nurses call off strike

The Manhyia District Hospital nurses’ strike has been called off, and the planned road map for the strike’s escalation has been suspended by the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.

According to a statement released by the Association, the industrial action has been suspended to prevent patients and clients from suffering unnecessarily and to give the committee established by the National Service Secretariat time to look into the actions of the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), whose verbal abuse of a nurse sparked the strike.

Friday morning, the nurses went on an indefinite strike to demand the firing of Alex Opoku-Mensah, the head of the NSS, for verbally abusing a nurse working at the facility.
