Man City sign defender Akanji from Dortmund

Manuel Akanji, a defender from Switzerland, has signed a five-year contract with Manchester City.

The 27-year-old comes from Borussia Dortmund, where since January 2018, he has made 158 appearances.

Akanji has 41 caps for Switzerland and was essential to their World Cup qualification.

“I am thrilled to be here and am eager to begin. Over the past few seasons, City has been among the greatest teams in Europe, according to him.

“Coming here feels like the ideal next step in my career since they are fantastic to watch, play an exciting kind of football, and contend for trophies year in and year out.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me because Pep Guardiola is a great manager and this team has exceptional players.

I am eager to put my skills to the test in the Premier League, and I will do everything in my power to make this team successful.

After Erling Haaland’s departure to City earlier this summer, Akanji, who started his career with FC Basel, reunites with him.

He is Guardiola’s fifth acquisition of the transfer period as City seeks to capture its first Champions League trophy and third straight Premier League crown.

Manuel has a ton of experience competing at the highest level of European football, and we are certain he will be a useful addition to our group, according to City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain.

We have been impressed by his performances while at Dortmund, where he has grown into a very excellent defender who is capable of competing in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

“He possesses every quality we look for in a center back. He will compliment the other defenders on our squad and our style of play because he is powerful, quick, at ease in possession, has a fantastic passing range, and he is all of those things.
