Police detained a British man on suspicion of beating his wife only hours after they married while on vacation in Majorca.
After having too much to drink, the nameless man allegedly slapped his bride at their wedding celebration.
The event occurred on Friday, the same day they married nearby in the tourist town of Peguera in the municipality of Calvia, at an unnamed location.
According to local sources, police were summoned just before 9 p.m. when the Brit became ‘aggressive’ while celebrating the couple’s wedding anniversary.
Officers had to detain him before arresting him, according to the island daily Ultima Hora, after learning he had attacked the bride.
The woman is claimed to have left the venue and returned later to hunt for him, unaware that he had been arrested.
Following the arrest by local police, Civil Guard officers took over the investigation.
It was unclear whether he had appeared before a judge in a private court session yesterday.
Although there has been no formal confirmation, it is believed that the ‘assaulted’ bride has declined to file charges.
