Letter To All Churches: Why Churches Must Talk Boldly About Sex And Orgasm In Marriages In 2022.
Many Christians, particularly Christian leaders, believe that the main purpose of having sex is to procreate due to God’s directive to Adam and Eve to be “fruitful and multiply.” Hence, if there is one thing that the Church has failed woefully at, it is neglecting to delve deeper into the subject and issues related to sex and orgasm in marriage.
Lack of sex and unsatisfying sex have been the major cause of infidelity and divorce in many Christian marriages today. Lack of sex and orgasm in Christian marriages is given credence and explored extensively by Rev. Dr. J. K. Futagbi, a Pastor of Global Evangelical Church and a Lecturer at Central University College in his article, The Causes and Prevention of Infidelity or Unfaithfulness Among Christian Couples. He stated that “Many Christian couples do not talk freely about sex. To them, it is a taboo to do so. The woman does not reach orgasm but cannot talk about it. She is unable to reveal or communicate her erotic parts to the husband who, as a result, is not able to satisfy her.” He added that some Christian husbands and wives erroneously think that legitimate sexual relations with their spouse may lower their spirituality or anointing and, as a result, they deny their partner sex.
God in His infinite wisdom gave us a book in the Bible that solely explores physical intimacy and pleasure between husband and wife: the Song of Solomon. The Bible also gives us clear instructions about sexual fulfilment in marriage in 1 Corinthians 7:3–5 (NLT): “The husband should fulfil his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs. The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife. Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control.” Thus, the Bible does not only depict God’s stance on sex and orgasm in Christian marriages, but it also shows how sex goes beyond just procreation and how lack of pleasurable sex can be damaging to Christian marriages. God designed sexual activities to be extremely enjoyable for husbands and wives, and it is one of His gifts that bonds couples together in one flesh.
To this end, sex and orgasm among Christian couples should not be overlooked by the Church. It is high time the Body of Christ creates an enabling environment where these subjects and every issue related to it can be discussed openly and extensively. Otherwise, many Christians will fall to the temptation of adultery and other forms of sexual immorality.
