KMA disassociates itself from assault on trader

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) administration has distanced itself from an attack on a local street vendor.

The KMA claims that the security guard’s actions were unjustified and they condemn the incident that took place at the Central Business Market (CBM) on Mampong Road in Adum.

In a widely shared video, the guard can be seen kicking the merchant as she rolls around on the ground.

The woman, who asked to only be known as Achiaa, claimed that she went through the trauma in an effort to stop the city guard from confiscating her products for trading in an unapproved area.

Bright Agyei, a guard for the Community Protection Agency (CPA) under the defunct Youth Employment Agency (YEA), was named as the suspect by KMA in a statement.

Parts of the statement stated that “management has decided to form a committee to investigate the incident so that we can administer the appropriate sanctions.”

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to the KMA, and was later released.
