If Putin wins this war, it will be the beginning of World War III – Ukraine President (Volodymyr Zelenskyy)

Evans Effah, the editor of Pulse Ghana, was one of the chosen few who spoke with the president of Ukraine.

Mr. Zelenskyy stressed that the international security system needs to be updated and reminded that the current situation in Ukraine is comparable to that which is occurring on the African continent in many aspects.

“The world has been careless for a very long period, and this is wrong. People who had been living through war for eight years was a topic we frequently discussed. There isn’t a global conflict. In many locations across the African continent, what is happening in Ukraine has been happening for many years. There is no denying this injustice, and the global security system needs to be reformed.

For these multinational organizations to function, changes must be made. And we support it.

The president of Ukraine responded that they understand how painful it is when the world ignores one’s situation, war, or poverty when asked why Africans should support Ukrainians today even when the world does not help them enough. He pointed out that Africans are familiar with what it’s like to be disregarded. Instead, they ought to speak out and show support.

“We do not categorize the nations of the African continent into those that support us and those that favor neutrality in the conflict with us. We are aware of this need and prepared to provide wheat and grain to all nations. the fact that hunger is not neutral.

No matter how things were before the conflict, hunger is a problem throughout the nation. The issue is hunger and the prospect of human mortality. Just as they ought to band together to support Ukraine, I am confident that we can assist the African nations without separating them. Because we are on the side of truth.

He stressed that winning the information war is crucial. He extended an invitation to African journalists to travel to Ukraine to learn about current events there and to get to know the people.

“You and we share no differences. Even though we may have received a different education, used different textbooks, and had different teachers than you, we still hold the same principles that you do.

The message that Russia is only a colonizer who wants to occupy and subjugate our nation must be delivered. This informational battle must be impartial. The truth has to win out.

The president of Ukraine also stated that in order for the globe to come together and prevent Russia from being able to get around any sanctions, his nation needed the cooperation of the African nations.

“Russia illegally imported grain into our ports before exporting it to other nations. Russia is able to maintain the illusion that the conflict will continue for a considerable amount of time by using their own oil and gas pipelines and sea lanes for trade. And we need to have a coordinated and united policy because else Russia won’t stop having an impact on global security and stability.

Additionally, Volodymyr Zelenskyy brought up the fact that less than 1% of all investments are made in Africa by Russia.

“Unlike states, governments, or communities, Russia does not invest in you. This implies that Russia does not hold you in high regard. Russian investments in general are purely political. The heir to the Soviet Union, Russia, approaches you and declares their greatness, saying, “We need to expand our ties.” If Russian investments in African nations total just 1%, then this is their investment in the continent’s future and represents their price.

Mr. President added that by obstructing Ukrainian ports and using force and armaments, Russia keeps bread and grains from reaching Africa. Ukraine is waging various sanctions against Russia while not obstructing the flow of food products.

According to Mr. Zelensky, the way the world unites around Ukraine will determine when this war ends because they might experience a same fate tomorrow.

“World War III will start if Putin wins this battle. The major autocracies in the world will follow suit. Chaos will spread throughout the entire world. A war that Russia launched is just the beginning; it might get even worse. Provoked energy insecurity, triggered food insecurity, and even not insecurity but the crisis that Russian Federation provoked last year are all just the beginning.

The president of Ukraine revealed that, prior to the conflict, he had urged European and other world leaders to assist him in initiating direct talks with the head of Russia in order to avert the conflict he had foreseen. There would always be justifications for avoiding engaging in this conversation. But he asserted that there are no ongoing peace negotiations with Russia.

“There is an ultimatum from them to us. An ultimatum that says, “If you don’t do what we want we’ll keep killing you.” You tell me, if someone breaks into your apartment, into your home, murders your child, what will you say to this person? Will you kill them? Or will you tell them “Stop, please don’t do this. Tell me why you killed my child”? No, you will fight back because you have no time to talk – next he will kill you and the rest of your family. They don’t offer us dialogue.

They demand that we give up and accept their terms – forget that we have our own land, our own flag, our history. They just want to erase us.” Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that in the future, Ukraine and African countries will have many joint economic projects. According to him, Ukraine is ready to be a guarantor of food security in African countries and would be happy to invest in African countries.

Ukraine also strives for cultural exchange. In addition, Ukraine has one of the most developed IT industries in the world, a very high level of digital services for the population and is ready to share this experience. “I believe that the African continent is an underestimated territory, underestimated countries and the potential of people. Because I know how underestimated our region and our people are. And now, due to the blocking of the ports, the whole world saw how much Ukraine has done and how much it can do.” Mr Zelenskyy refuted the misinformation about the potential risks that weapons supplied to Ukraine might be smuggled out of the country to go to the African black market.

On February 24th, 2022, Russia launched an all-out military invasion of Ukraine by land, air, and sea, having accumulated over 170,000 troops on Ukrainian borders in the north (Belarus), east, and south (Black Sea). It’s the biggest attack by one state against another in Europe since World War II. The war against Ukraine didn’t start recently, but in 2014 when Russia invaded Ukraine and occupied the Crimean peninsula and part of the eastern regions of the country.

The major access points for Ukraine’s agricultural sector were Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea and the Azov Sea, which were sealed by the Russian fleet on February 24. One of the major producers of corn, sunflower oil, and wheat is Ukraine.

Additionally, Ukraine was a major manufacturer of fertilizers in Europe. And now that the battle has started, production has ceased. Due to the possibility of Russian missile strikes and other hostilities-related effects, several manufacturers lack the necessary raw materials and even the capacity to operate. Russian soldiers simply demolished certain firms in conflict areas.
