Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has disclosed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo offered him some juicy proposal when he graduated from law school. The renowned lawyer said he had impressed then Attorney-General Nana Akufo Addo some twenty years ago with the numerous prizes he received for his academic excellence.
Do no much was said about the exact offer Nana Akufo Addo made to Mr. Maurice Ampaw, it appeared it had more to do with politics. He indicated that his training at the law school was marked with some apprehension instiled in him by the mother about politics in the country, adding that it caused him to turn down Akufo Addo’s offer.
Recounting the strides, he had made over his twenty years of the legal profession, Lawyer Ampaw indicated that he was awarded the best student in business and corporate law in Ghana, a feat that gave him so much recognition across the country. He added that Nana Akufo Addo was curious about him and wish he worked for him.
“Nana Addo kept clapping for me as I received my awards. He was the Attorney-General then and invited me to his office but I never showed up. I was scared you were going to introduce me to politics,” he mentioned on Mbra Ne Abrabo Mu Nsem Show on Wontumi TV.
But there have been some terrible experiences he had encountered in his life. According to Lawyer Ampaw the academic board at the University of Ghana Legon suspended him for two years over alleged examination malpractice.
This sanction, he said was based on a false accusation and his students were sad about it. He disclosed that many that knew him vouched that there was no way he could have done that.
With perseverance, Lawyer Ampaw served his suspension period but with an extra year due to an industrial strike action that was affected by lecturers. Albeit, he is grateful for what has become of him, especially when he avoided from politics.
