Hackers request $10 million to stop a cyberattack on a regional hospital in Paris.

Since the weekend, a hospital southeast of Paris has been the target of an ongoing cyber attack that has disrupted emergency services and surgical procedures while demanding a $10 million ransom to halt the cyberattack.

Southeast of Paris, near Corbeil-Essonnes, the CHSF Hospital Centre has been the target of a computer attack that started late Saturday night.

According to reports, hackers have demanded $10 million USD in English in order to halt the ransomware onslaught.

The hospital’s computer system was hacked, and an organized gang attempted to extort money from patients, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office, which has launched an investigation.

The inquiry is being led by the gendarme’s Center for Combating Digital Crime (C3N) branch, according to the prosecutor’s office.

A hospital is the subject of this most recent cyberattack once more; hospitals have long been the focus of ransomware attacks.

Hospitals under fire from cyberattacks since March

In March, a hospital in Ajaccio was also the target of a ransomware cyberattack. In April of last year, hackers gained access to the computer systems of nine hospitals in the Grand Est area of France.

Hospitals in the departments of Landes, Haute-Garonne, and Pyrénées-Atlantiques were also the targets of cyberattacks in 2021, which disrupted or shut down their IT systems.

In order to preserve health services, the CHSF hospital in Essonne, which has 1,000 beds and can treat a population of roughly 600,000 people in the greater Paris region, launched a so-called “white plan” emergency operation on Sunday.

Hackers steal 1.4 million people’s Covid test data from the Paris hospital network.

Third French hospital immobilised by cyberattack and ransom demand

All of the hospital’s business software, storage systems, including those for medical imaging, and the information system pertaining to patient admissions, according to the hospital, are now unreachable as a result of the attack.

A type of ransomware has been found, and the National Authority for the Security and Defence of Information Systems (Anssi) was “immediately warned.”

The Ile-de-France region’s other public hospitals have been instructed to treat patients who need the hospital’s services.

The medical and technological services, in particular medical biology, are currently operating for patients already admitted to the CHSF, but in a degraded manner.
