Because of the potential for radicals to recruit Ghanaians for terrorist actions, he believes it is vital to increase security education.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah told the media in Accra on Sunday that the National Security Ministry will launch a series of public awareness programs to notify the public to be on high alert.
“On the 11th of May 2022, roughly ten military personnel killed in Togo as a consequence of a terrorist strike. Intelligence sources are increasingly indicating that certain Ghanaians are participating in terrorist acts in the Sahelian region.
“This indicates that some of these terrorist organisations in the West African sub-region may have attempted to recruit Ghanaians.”
“In accordance with current security procedures, the Ministry of National Security has authorized an elevated degree of awareness among the intelligence community and intends to expand contact with the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Edward Asomani, has said the Ministry is on top of the situation and will do whatever it takes to ensure the nation’s security is not compromised.
