The help package aims to solve issues with standards and specifications in the yam export industry as well as difficulties that yam exporters encounter in obtaining financial assistance.

This was disclosed at a forum for yam exporters in Accra by Mr. Lawrence Agyinsam, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Exim Bank.

He mentioned that USAID and Ghana Exim Bank have both shown their willingness to help the trade and their commitment to raising the caliber of yams exported from Ghana.

“The Ghana Exim Bank is prepared to invest $10 million to increase yam exports and production. He stressed that USAID is poised and ready to contribute $25 million for the same goal.

Ghana is the top exporter of yams in the world ($37.6 million), followed by Jamaica ($37.5 million), and the United States ($27.1 million).

As a result, the Ghana Shippers Authority has increased its efforts to make sure that Ghana continues to be the world’s top exporter of yam.

In order to oversee and guarantee advancements in Ghana’s temperature-controlled cargo industry, it also established a multi-stakeholder committee.

In addition, the GSA is negotiating trade facilitation measures with GIZ Ghana and the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS).
