Five Chinese nationals arrested in connection with missing excavators at Ellembelle

The Police have detained five Chinese nationals for their alleged involvement in the continuing investigation into the Ellembelle excavators.

This was accomplished through an operation that was steered by intelligence from the evening of September 7 until the daybreak of September 8th, 2022.

Shi zhong Qix, Wei Lin Xi, Huang Qian Xi, Li Jian Wen, and Huang Qian Sheng have been named as the suspects. They were apprehended in their hideout in Asiama, in the Ellembe District of the Western Region.

According to a statement from the police, the Ghana Immigration Service has been contacted for information regarding the suspects’ immigration status and the identities of their Ghanaian sponsors to aid in the investigation.

As the investigation continues, we want to reassure the public that all additional complicit parties—both Ghanaians and foreigners—will be apprehended and prosecuted.

Kwasi Bonzo, the District Chief Executive of Ellembelle who was detained on Wednesday, has been granted police investigation bail in the meanwhile.

Five counts have been brought against Mr. Bonzoh, who is scheduled to appear before Takoradi Habour Circuit court.

Assault, conspiracy to commit assault, resisting arrest, and two other offenses are among the charges.
