An official memo states that anyone found in possession of any one of such things may be sentenced to prison.

The UK Foreign Travel Advice government website states: “Importing drugs, alcohol, pornography, pork products, and religious literature and material into Qatar is forbidden.”

It is stated that beer will only be available in certain areas, such as stadiums during sporting events.

According to the website, “swearing and making crude gestures are deemed obscene conduct, and offenders can be incarcerated and/or deported.” “Be especially cautious while interacting with law enforcement and other officials.”

The portal continues with a series of warnings for users, such as not engaging in public displays of closeness, and it provides guidance on how to dress in accordance with Islamic law.

When out in public, even while driving, you should dress modestly. The website advises women to avoid wearing short skirts and to cover their shoulders.

Men and women are advised against wearing shorts or sleeveless tops when visiting malls, medical facilities, or government offices.

As controversy over the choice of Qatar to host the World Cup continues to rage, the list of prohibited items grabs headlines.
