Ethiopian Airlines dismisses pilots who failed to implement traffic signals

The Ethiopian Airlines Group has temporarily suspended a flight crew awaiting an investigation after they were unable to contact Addis Ababa air traffic control before making a safe landing.

According to a statement from Africa’s largest airline, Flight ET343 was traveling from Khartoum in neighboring Sudan to Addis Ababa on Monday. Depending on the findings of the investigation, the aviators will face the proper punishment.

According to the Aviation Herald, the pilots were both sound asleep when the autopilot disconnected, and were only roused by a warning siren. The aircraft could then be put back on its intended course.
