Court dismisses defamatory case filed by presidential staffer against MGL

The Director of Political Affairs at the Chief of Staff Office filed a defamation lawsuit against The Multimedia Group, but it was dismissed by the Accra High Court.

This relates to a defamation lawsuit filed by Mr. Frank Asiedu Bekoe against investigative journalist Kwetey Nartey and The Multimedia Group Limited.

In response to JoyNews’ investigative investigation, “JoyNews reveals how confiscated cars were auctioned off cheaply by politically connected,” Mr. Bekoe filed a lawsuit for $10 million.

The judge ruled that the Director of Political Affairs at the president was not maligned by the narrative.

However, the judge ruled that MGL needed to retract a statement in its report that incorrectly identified Mr. Bekoe as the chairman of the assets committee.

The plaintiff was given a damage award of $45,000 by the court.
