Ashanti Region has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS prevalence.

Dr. Thomas Agyako-Poku, the regional coordinator for HIV/AIDS, told Elisha Adarkwah of Class 91.3 FM in an interview that the regional statistic is one-fifth of the national figure.

Dr. Agyarko stated that “we’ve been hovering around three percent” and added that the Ashanti area is one of the top regions in the nation for those living with HIV/AIDS.

When it comes to the national count of persons living with the condition, he claimed that not only have the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions always led the rate, but the Ashanti region also doesn’t go past the fourth position.

He explained that the area’s status as the nation’s economic hub explains why the sickness is so prevalent there.

He claimed that if the area could lower its number, it would significantly lower the national number.

Dr. Agyarko consequently counseled the populace to take preventative measures against the illness while pushing those who already had it to take their medication to stop the spread of it.
