Another first-year student of KNUST raped, 6 students arrested and remanded

Six students from the prestigious educational institution have been detained on suspicion of participating in the crime.

The six suspects were all remanded in police custody after being arraigned before Asokore Mampong District Court on Wednesday, August 3, according to 3news.com.

The suspects, whose identities have not yet been revealed, are scheduled to appear in court once more on Wednesday, August 17, to provide testimony regarding the alleged crime they are accused of committing.

Richard Adu Darko, the attorney representing the six accused, said he would use the proper channels to obtain their release on bail so they could take their end-of-semester exams.

He highlighted that although his clients had been charged with rape, they had not yet been proven guilty of the crime and would still have the chance to defend themselves in court.

We honestly don’t see any evidence of rape in the facts that have been brought to us, but that is what they have been accused of, and once someone has been accused, the law states that they are presumed innocent until proven guilty or they enter a plea of not guilty.

“As a result, they are now presumed innocent until they enter a plea of guilty or a court of competent jurisdiction finds them guilty. They were taken to this court of first instance at this time for the aim of remanding them into legal custody “According to Adu Darko, as cited by 3news.com.

KNUST has made the news for sexual assaults on its students twice in the past month.
