According to reports on the Angola24Horas and the Angop websites, Angola’s Attorney-General Helder Pitta Groz has stated that his nation has filed an arrest warrant for former President Jose Eduardo dos Santos’ daughter, Isabel dos Santos.
According to Mr. Groz, Ms. Dos Santos’ whereabouts are being sought after by Interpol and the Angolan government.
Authorities in Angola have accused her of misusing and embezzling public funds while she was in charge of Sonangol, the country’s state-owned oil company.
The government is suing her for more than $5 billion (£4.1 billion) in a number of civil and criminal lawsuits. Dos Santos has refuted the accusations.
She offered to answer questions in an interview with The New York Times.
“My address is known, my whereabouts are known,” she told the newspaper.
“I’m not a fugitive. I’m not hiding from anyone,” she added, saying that she was living in London.
She added that the claims were made for political reasons.
