Akufo-Addo to meet NPP MPs over demand for Ofori-Atta’s dismissal

Later this evening, President Akufo-Addo will meet with NPP lawmakers to discuss their demand that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta be fired.

These facts were acquired by sources at the Presidency for JoyNews.

At a news conference on Tuesday, October 25, some NPP lawmakers requested that Mr. Ofori-Atta be immediately fired from his position as finance minister.

If President Akufo-Addo ignores the request, the MPs have threatened to skip the 2023 budget hearing, then the administration runs the risk of losing their support moving forward.

According to Mr. Appiah-Kubi, a spokesperson for the majority caucus and the member of parliament for Asante-Akim North Constituency, “If our request is not positively responded to, we will not be present for the budget hearing, and we will not participate in the debate.”

Additionally, they requested President Akufo-Addo to fire Charles Adu Boahen, the Minister of State in charge of Finance at the Ministry of Finance.

In a related development, Mr. Patrick Boamah, MP for Okaikwei Central, stated that the call for the Finance Ministry to be reshuffled is a good one if the Akufo-Addo-led government wants to succeed and end the cycle of eight per party controlling the government of the nation.

Mr. Patrick Boamah argued that the MPs would support Akufo-Addo if it meant dismissing every member of his cabinet and forming a new one.

“It’s a wise decision that the majority of the electorate cares about the success of our government.

Therefore, he declared, “We will back whatever it takes for the government to put in place the correct measures, even if it means ousting all of the cabinet ministers and forming a new government.”

President Akufo-Addo is anticipated to meet with the Caucus as a result of this demand as there isn’t currently a petition in front of him.

The minority caucus has already submitted a motion of censure against the Minister who is under fire.
