Afena-Gyan: ‘Mourinho changed my life’

After spending a year and a half with Roma, the 19-year-old is about to sign for Cremonese in a deal worth €6 million, plus €3 million in add-ons.

During his stay in Rome, Afena-Gyan gained Jose Mourinho’s confidence, and the Portuguese coach gave him his senior debut in October 2021 against Cagliari.

After scoring twice as Roma defeated Genoa 2-0 a month later, the striker continued to have a significant impact in Serie A.

He also joined the first squad and made 20 games across all leagues, contributing to Roma’s Europa Conference League triumph.

Afena-Gyan expressed gratitude to the technical team and personnel for their assistance in his final message to the Giallorossi faithful.

He added that Mourinho altered his life and reserved special praise for the Portuguese manager for having faith in him.

“I appreciate the valuable chance and assistance I have had over the past 1.5 years from AS Roma, the technical staff, and the personnel, the teenage forward said in a statement.

Afena-desire Gyan’s to play more frequently before the World Cup in Qatar reportedly forced him to transfer to Cremonese.
