Nigerian sex trafficking victim repatriated after getting pregnant

A 20-year-old victim of sex trafficking from Nigeria who was abandoned in Koforidua after being kicked out of a brothel for getting pregnant has been flown to Accra in preparation for her return to her native country.

Ibrahim Amevor, a good Samaritan, saved Somtooma (not her real name) from the streets of Koforidua at the beginning of this year.

She underwent a cesarean delivery at the Eastern Regional Hospital on April 30, 2022, but she experienced acute puerperal insanity.

Since then, the good Samaritan has been taking care of the nursing mother and child in his Koforidua family home.

However, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana started the procedure to repatriate her to Nigeria when Starr News exposed sex trafficking activities involving young Nigerian females.

The commission, along with a few other international partners, removed the victim and the infant to Accra on August 11, 2022, in preparation for their repatriation.

She will receive medical attention, sponsorship to pursue a profession, and a $1,500 start-up loan.

The good Samaritan, Ibrahim Amevor, is pleased that he saved the victim and the infant, but he wants more to be done to stop the sex trafficking problem in Koforidua.
