17-year-old boy jailed for defiling 12-year-old sister at Assin Fosu

A 17-year-old boy who physically assaulted and defiled his 12-year-old biological sister at Assin Kyekyewere has been sentenced to serve 36 months in a senior prison with hard labor by the Assin Fosu Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu.

The juvenile criminal, who also happens to be the survivor’s biological brother, advised the survivor to find shelter on his veranda and continue her journey home after the rain, according to the prosecutor, Sergeant Matilda Osaah Buabeng, who presented the case before the court.

She was molested sexually by the juvenile offender while they were on the porch.

She said that while this was happening, the victim cried and screamed, but the young criminal, fearing that the commotion would draw attention to the scene, covered her mouth, twisted her neck, and then had sex with her after the victim had already passed out.

She went on to say that after carrying out the horrible deed, the perpetrator, believing the survivor was dead, tossed her through a window and hurled her to the rear of the building, covering her with palm branches in an effort to hide the victim from onlookers.

The victim regained consciousness after a significant downpour and told her parents about what had happened.

A complaint was formerly made to the police by the parents and a medical form was issued to seek medical care for the survivor, and the juvenile offender was subsequently arrested. The prosecution said, the 17-year-old offender, who is a school dropout, in his caution statement admitted to having committed the offense. He pleaded guilty to the offense and was convicted accordingly.

According to the court, the offender will be serving 36 months in the senior correctional center at Maamobi in Accra. Meanwhile, the Director of Social Welfare and Community Development at Assin Fosu, Angus Amoah, who formed part of the jury panel that sat on the case in chambers, vehemently condemned the act, saying such a barbaric act must in no form or shape be entertained in society.

He claimed that the results of the sociological investigation his group carried out showed that the offender’s moral depravities were the result of parental neglect.

He used the chance to plead with parents to provide their children with the greatest amount of assistance in both school and at home, adding that the kids need both parents to help mold their lives as they grow up.

A professional psychologist will be assigned to the survivor and her family for in-depth treatment since she was traumatized and that might influence her as she develops, he added, even if she is now in a stable physical condition.
